Simpson is celebrating First Amendment Week this week — Sept. 16-20 — and Freedom Forum COO Gene Policinski came to campus to deliver the Constitution Day Lecture on Sept. 17 to 150 faculty, students and staff in Hubbell Hall. Policinski's talk was titled 'The Future of the First Amendment,' and he noted that it's not just the 45 words of the amendment that protect our five basic civil freedoms: Religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. Rather, it's the commitment of everyday Americans to use those rights and respects the rights of others to exercise their freedoms.
